Q: Why can't I save my Pages document?

I have been working on an extremely important document for the past few days. I have never had anything but great things to say about the Pages app until now. For whatever reason, the app saves changes I make to the document, then reverts back to an earlier saved file. I have lost hours of work twice in a row because of this. But it only seems to happen on this one particular document. I have sinced moved my document to another file, but I REALLY want all my work back. My work was definitely saved, since I had been editing the document multiple times over the last few days. But last night, all my work was lost. I spent all of today rewriting it, and now I lost it all again.

Please let me know what is happening. I have a number of really precious files on pages and it would be devastating to lose any more of my work!

There have been multiple reports of this happening.

I am hunting but can't find any solutions.

All I know is just how buggy and unreliable Pages 5 is generally, particularly where saving to iCloud or iCloud Drive. Not helped by Apple changing the file format over and over again.

I personally am going on long experience of Apple and its many failed attempts at network apps. I would not trust my work to iCloud or iCloud Drive.

I have had intractable problems with the Camera Roll on my iPod touch and despite repeatedly taking it up with Apple they seemed to just abandon it as all too hard. I finally shook the problem off by manually transferring all the photos, and manually deleting every single photo from my iPod.

It looks to me like a house of cards, best avoided.

I unfortunately ran into the same issue as StreetSaint - I had four documents saved on Pages and 2 of the four reverted back a previous version for some unknown reason (this was via Chrome on my PC).  I pulled up the Pages app on my iPhone to see if maybe this might be just a browser issue and all of my documents looked current...then the app refreshed and they then matched what I saw on my browser.  Boo!

I opened a case with Apple support and they escalated to engineering so hopefully, they can find the updated copy somewhere.  Fingers crossed...

Well, after a month plus of waiting on engineering, the data cannot be recovered.

I don't quite understand how the current copy is overwritten by an old copy and somehow the expected data is gone.  Aggravating really - lessen learned to keep a local copy and not depend on half baked cloud concepts.

    -_-
Just like OP, I have never had anything bad to say about Apple products until the past few weeks. I'm writing a novel, and can't always be at home. I uploaded it to my phone so I could work on it while I was away and waiting for things to happen. Well, I tried to move the file back to my computer, and viola. ALL of my changes are gone. It's as though Pages does not save AT ALL. I'm resorting to manually copying the text to the computer version. I haven't had to do that for a document since the early 1990s.
In the future, I think I'm going to have to resort to moving a single chapter at a time into notes, because as far as I've encountered, it's the only app that reliably keeps updates across platforms.
I think Apple is moving too quickly. They're putting too much resources into rapid advancement, and they're forgetting their tenacious adherence to quality that attracted me as a customer to begin with.
Abandoning the option to manually save a document is the dumbest idea I can possibly even imagine. It takes one tap.

    -ALSO-
If you're editing in normal view, and then rotate the screen, (so the text isn't illegibly tiny...) the cursor placement bubble will show a sideways view of what it's supposed to be magnifying, effectively making correct cursor placement all but impossible. The problem remains after switching back to the illegibly tiny view. Would it really kill them to give us arrow keys? Even if they're on an alternative key plate like the emoticons, that has got to be easier to use when you only need to move the cursor one or two positions. Some of these features are great for the iPad but aren't really all that practical on the phone sized screen. Where's the UI specialists?
