Jan 5, 2015 5:48 AM in response to Eric Rootby ioyo, just saw your reply, don't think you will want to know once I start explaining. It's a mess and I know I probably should take my Mac in to get it repaired but can't find the time And it still is quite usable as is.
I've been trying to get some info from this thread: Safari is frequently crashing edited comment: ...[2009 iMac. but I run the Mac off of an external hard drive because apparently the internal hard drive is broken. But the set up has been working well enough for a long while] I have five extensions enabled + flash. And frequent user of speakable items and dictation. Crashes and constant beach ball/Freezes every time I tried to do something, got really bad After last 2 Safari updates. Have had to abandon Safari & go to Firefox . bummer because speakable commands worked better in Safari. and sites seemed to load quicker or smoother, and some other features I liked.
I did get some sort of message when things got very slow: something like I was running out of storage or memory.. I saw that my backup disk is getting full, other partitions have plenty of room. I emptied garbage and deleted some older back ups and haven't gotten such messages since. 1] but seems I have to reboot more often or thing start malfunctioning horribly...and these are signs that I am running out of some kind of storage?
The upshot of that thread is that they think that Safari 6.2.2 is no longer stable/usable. Even if u could reply to any of my ignorant, simpler questions on that thread or here, would greatly appreciate. I repeat them here:
2] resetting Safari helps when things get slow or freeze up? Are you supposed to completely empty cookies and cache regularly?
My last comment on that thread: ...appreciate if you would keep giving updates as to how Safari is working in Yosemite, as we have nearly identical iMacs. I'm too busy right now to update to Yosemite, and your last comment doesn't give me a lot of hope that Safari will be okay if I do.
When safari was working best for me, before these last updates, it would still crash regularly, But it was not such an obstacle as it would be stable enough after I reopened it. ...
3] I usually work with at least several tabs, and it did seem to crash more when I was trying to go too fast probably. I guess it's bad to click on one link and then quickly click on another? Is that what this entry in the console means: " assistantd[720]: <Warning>: Daemon - Interrupting outstanding request for new request" ? Can a computer only do one or a few operations at a time? I always wondered if it was crashing because I was pushing it too hard?
Mountain Lion and Safari 6.2.2, late 2009 model iMac. 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
