Why am i unable to connect my MACbook Pro to my SmartTV?

Does that Arrangement tab only become available if another display is detected? or should that Arrangement tab be available all the time, regardless if another display is detected?

cables are fully inserted 🙂

The Arrangement tab only appears if two or more monitors are connected.

ok. thanks for clarifying the Arrangement tab.

but some how i need to get my Macbook to recognize ive attached another display.

Did you:

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

About NVRAM and PRAM

Does the HDMI input on the TV work when connected to another device using the same cable?

Maybe a bad mini displayport to DVI adopter

i have not tried resetting the SMC yet. it sounded intimidating at first review, so perhaps i'll try if other troubleshooting does not work.

unfortunately, i don't have another device to test the HDMI-MiniDisplay cable on. its my only MAC device. all my other devices are window PCs.
