garageband restore sound library not working

I am using yosemite 10.10.1 and garageband 10.0.3 on a mid-2009 macbook pro with 4GB and also on a mid 2007 imac with 2GB

I have attempted to "restore sound library" several times on both computers. they spend a long time lownloading and then they spend a long time installing, but nothing has changed and the "restore sound library" is still on the menu.

I am asking about this because I think something may have gone with my yosemite install. Apple says mavericks and yosemite have the same minimum requirements, but performance and stability have both taken a big hit with the yosemite install. The imac is almost useless. Lots of beachball, lots of mysterious crashes. mavericks ran just fine on both machines.

Can somebody tell me if this is a garageband issue or an issue with a bad yosemite install.

thanks

michael

How did you check that?

The "restore sound library" option will always be available. What are you expecting to change? Did you previously have the additional content installed? If not, you should now see more than one Drummer installed and more than 1500 loops.

The additional loops may not show, if you have the preference "keyword browsing" enabled in the "GarageBand preferences > Advanced" panel. Disable it, to see all loops in the Loop Browser.

Hi and Thanks. I was expecting "restore sound library" to change to "download new sounds". I was trying to download the loops for the (RED) promotion and couldn't find where to buy them. I have several drummers now, so I guess my download was successful. I don't know how to make an in app purchase in

GB. The manual says there is a "download new sounds" in the Garageband" menu, but I can't find it.

Thanks Again

Michael

Michel,

the in-app purchase is explained in this little tg on the GarageBand 10 page:

There used to be things called "jam packs". Why do they mention in-app purchase when there nothing to buy?

It is just, that Apple split the download into the basic set to get started, and the extra download to get the full set of instruments and loops. The extra content will download, whenever GarageBand is connected to the Internet. If you interrupt it, it will resume the download, when you restart Garageband.

The Jam Packs used to be expensive, and Apple is not selling them any longer as separate packs.

You could try to find the boxed Jam Packs at Amazon, but some the installers of some Jam Packs include Power PC code and are difficult to install on Intel machines.

It is much more economic to buy MainStage 3 instead. It includes all JamPacks for a price less than the price of a single JamPack. MainStage will install the JamPacks so, that they can directly be used from Logic and GarageBand.

From all JamPacks:

Jam Pack 1, Jam Pack Remix Tools, Jam Pack Rhythm Section, Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra, Jam Pack Voices, Jam Pack World Music.

It is a bargain price compared to the prices of a single Jam Pack.

if you decide to buy MainStage, launch it at least once after you installed it.

Use the command "MainStage > Download additional content" and then select the packages you want to install:

It will install the JamPacks in the same libraries Logic and GarageBand are using, so you can use the sounds and loops directly from GarageBand.
