Q: Completer wants to make changes

Yes me too, It has now happened for the second time and I'm wondering how do I stop the pop up window that is telling me "Completer wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this."? Help

Same here, first one yesterday, another today. What is the "Completer"? Virus?

I just googled the same thing to see if it's a virus and found this thread.  I've gotten it 2-3 times in the last few days, just keep hitting cancel.  Trying to think what I've downloaded that might have given me a virus, I've never had one in 15+ years with Apple.

I get an installer on my desktop too. When I go to info it really has nothing.

Me too, what's this all about? Refusing to put my password in so far. I recently upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 and this pop up started shortly afterwards so I've been assuming it's some new Yosemite app that's been automatically set up on my system, however I see none of the other folks here have reported this pop up coinciding with a Yosemite upgrade.

Oops, just seen that this is a 10.7 OSX forum, which as above i'm not on, however this is the only place i've seen people report this same pop up so I'll leave this reply here anyway.

Same here.  Recently upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 and I'm not happy getting messages like this with no information on what it's about. So far haven't seen anyone else with an answer either.

I'm still running Mavericks and got the message yesterday. 

My IS Director says he thinks it looks like a toolbar or companion (garbage-ware) application that needs to be manually removed.

The only unusual activity I did on my computer yesterday was installing Reflector and I ran Microsoft Database Utility.

The message appeared while I was on Facebook.

I Found that as well, did Finder search for Genio, don't have it, yet get the "Completer wants to make changes" message, canceling/declining it currently.

Toolbar companion makes the most sense so far, but which one and is this request legit?

I just noticed the installer pop up last night also, I ejected it and emptied the trash, waiting to see if it pops up again tonight.  The path on it is weird though.  If it's Genieo that kind of makes sense because I've been downloading a lot of Minecraft stuff lately.  I must have clicked too quickly on one of them and it got me.

As others have pointed out, this is due to having Genieo installed. Genieo is adware that is not easily removed, but it can be removed by very carefully following the directions in my Adware Removal Guide, or by using my AdwareMedic app. Note that doing a Finder search for "Genieo" is quite far from sufficient to find all installed components of this adware.
