Q: Function keys not working (e.g. F8 doesn't pause music) even though the checkbox is ticked in System Preferences.

Hi guys,

I just got my Mac repaired on the Apple store (a screen replacement). Upon getting it back I was testing it out and discovered that the function keys no longer did what the little picture said on them, e.g. F8 no longer paused the song.

I thought all I had to do was click the button "Use all F1, F2 etc as standard function keys" in System Preferences under Keyboard. However, when this button is either checked or unchecked the function keys still do not do as the little picture says on them says, and instead either do nothing or other things. E.g. F11 shows my desktop and F12 shows my dashboard.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
