Keynote and Pages are free applications for new Macs. However, if you have an old Mac, you need to pay for these apps, and they also require Yosemite.
If you had purchased ant of the the prior versions, or purchased a Mac or iOS gadget after September 2013 it is free, otherwise it is not.
It is only free for OSX or iOS, if you have purchased copies or hardware for that version.

I have bought my new MacBook Pro in December 2013. I never saw the need to load Pages.
Last week I wanted have a look at Pages and wanted to download it.
I remember Pages, Numbers and Keynote being shown on the page with the Apps I have bought in the App Store with the option to download them for free (pre Yosemite). There I can't find them anymore and when I want to download it from the App Store it tells me the full price.
Georg,
I haven't heard of a purchase credit being removed from one's app store account. Are you sure you are logging into the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID?
Jerry
Jerry,
I have only one Apple ID that I am using for years and never had another one.
Today I was in the Apple Store here in Munich and had my first bad experience with Apple.
When I talked to one of the employees and asked how I can get the free Pages for my MacBook Pro he interrupted me and said: "I don't know." When I tried to explain that it was listed in the App Store app in Mavericks and it is not there anymore in Yosemite, he interrupted me again and was quite harsh: "I can't help you. Call Apple Care, that's what they are there for."
Maybe it was my fault. He had to stop a chat with a female co-worker because of a customer. That was not nice of me.
As I don't want to pay 29 €/$ just to ask where Apple has hidden the gratis Pages software, I will take part in a Pages Workshop and hope I can get help there.
Peter,
like you I was 100% sure that the free software was offered with every Mac purchased after September 2013.
But according to this webpage it is September 2014, not 2013.

Like just about everything in Apple these days, somebody has made a dumb obvious error, in this case a typo, and nobody else has checked it or corrected it.
It is 2013, when the new Apps were launched, but frankly what do you want them for it is like lining up for a free shot to the testicles from a taser.
Free is not necessarily good. You really should look this free horse in the mouth.
Peter
None of these apps are listed in the purchased tab on the App Store for Mac, not the iOS app store in iTunes or on your phone
What is the date range that this applies too ? If you fall into that date range then you should qualify. Unless your local laws are different, in the US, Apple is responsible for typos so if the printed dates are in your favor, then they are compelled to offer it to you. As for your experience at the Munich store, don't stress Sounds like that employee is on the fast track to being an Apple customer.
to: preposition expressing motion in the direction of, concerning or identifying a relationship
too: adverb meaning a higher degree or in addition
two: numeral, one plus one, one less than three
No, it was not listed in the Purchased section of the App Store. As my iPhone is quite old, I don't get the iWork suite for it.
I applied for the Up-to-Date Program for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote and after a short time I received an e-mail with links to download all three of them for free.
"If Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are not in your Purchases list, apply for the Up-to-Date Program."
