Default account option is greyed out in Notes app

The default Notes folder is the one selected in the folder list. It will remain selected until you change it.

This doesn't fully answer the question. What if I have "All Notes" selected and not an individual account. Then Notes defaults to the first account on the list. So how do I order this list?

I'll jump in with a 'me too' post here. I'm running 10.10.2 and use two different iCloud accounts (mine and my wife's). The 'Default Account' menu item in the Notes menu is greyed out. I just looked at another machine running Mavericks and you can definitely choose which account new notes default to.

I have disabled/enabled Notes on both iCloud accounts as well as deleted the secondary iCloud account (my wife's) - no change. "Default Account' in the Notes menu is still greyed out.

I have the same issue. Ever since I updated my mac book pro to Yosemite, I have been discovering issues such as this, Facetime doesn't have call logs any more, and etc. Hopefully they fix this as soon as they can. 😟

I continue to have this issue as well. I am also having an issue where Notes makes multiple copies of every new note that I make. Not sure if the two problems are related. Any insight or assistance would be appreciated!

I have multiple accounts with notes enabled and on the Mac the "default account" option seems greyed out and disabled no matter which "cloud" i'm in.

In the "All notes" view it also gives no clue which notes are from which account nor lets me move them to the right account or set a default for new ones.

Also multiple copies being created from the same Macbook. Not even switching to different devices. Sometimes I'll make an edit and boom another copy is created. Needs some work and I am all up to date with 10.10.4 as of now.

I guess one last quirk. By selecting the different accounts I see the one the Mac notes are under and those notes don't appear under that account on IOS device after about an hour. A "force synch" option might help too.

To sum up current issues:

1. Notes default account option is greyed out and don't see options to set the preference or move notes to the right accounts under "All notes" view.

2. Multiple copies being created from same device, not a synch between device issue.

3. Not seeing notes created on Mac on IOS device, when using the account the Mac seems set to default things to (a non-cloud imap one) though both have notes enabled for that account.

Any ideas please?

Bitten by the same bug.

Same issue here. Plus Notes on my new MacBook Air (Yosemite) refuses to sync to iCloud (iPhone, iPad, 2009 MacBook syncing fine).

Default Account still greyed out BUT

Made a new note on my iPhone in my gmail account

Have notes enabled on my mac

quit notes on mac

opened notes on mac and it had two categories one for mac notes and gmail notes

Note I made on iphone showed up on mac

Not a perfect fix but it'll work well enough for me.

Add me to the list. Not syncing. Greyed out default account on menu. This was one of my biggest draws to getting the new iPhone 6.

The "it just works" mantra is getting old.

The Fix:

Open notes

Select Accounts

Select each account except iCloud and click on the ‘-‘ at bottom right

It gives the option to turn off the account, and not delete it

Your notes will now default to iCloud Notes, and all syncs instantly
