10.5 update problem...

I bought iMac from mid 2007 from someone. It had 10.6.8 installed, but i wanted to do clean install. That mac came with 10.5 disk, so i did a clean install to leopard. Later i wanted to upgrade to snow leopard, so i got 10.6 disk and tried to install it but failed.

Every time i try to install same problem happens. It starts normally, and slider gets to cca 30% and then it says Installation will continue after restart. Computer restarts and then nothing happens. It boots normally to 10.5 like nothing happened. I tried everything, and by everything i literally mean everything.. I tried to update 10.5 to the latest update and then install, i tried to install snow leopard from clean 10.5 install, i tried to boot mac with option key to disk, but all of those methods returned same result; it booted back to 10.5... I really dont know what else I can do... Please try to help 😀

Is the 10.6 Install Disc a Gray machine Specific one, or the Retail version?


Did you update 10.5 to 10.5.8?


"Try Disk Utility


1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.


(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)


If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.


Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...


General requirements

* Mac computer with an Intel processor

* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)

* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

* DVD drive for installation

* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
