Q: iTunes will not allow me to choose what to sync

I'm using iTunes 10 (with Yosemite) and I'm having trouble syncing a playlist to my 6th gen. ipod. nano. When I get to the step where I have to check the box choosing which items to sync I get a warning saying that I will have to delete all previous playlists. I don't want to do that. It was suggested by someone on the forum that I try sending the music files to myself. I did that but I have no idea how I can get those files on to the ipod. Is it even possible? Is there a better way?

Is this playlist coming from the same iTunes library you originally synced with? And are the songs that are currently on your Nano also still in the iTunes Library?

As you've probably surmised, I am not adept at working with iTunes, but I believe the answer is "no" to both of your questions. I ripped a cd to iTunes and gave it a playlist name and thought it would sync with my ipod as it did in the past. It did not. I have two macs. The older one is still running Leopard and the new Macbook Air is up to date, but neither one would allow me to sync the playlist. I'm sorry if I'm just compounding the issue. Thank you for your time. Bill
