Q: Download contacts from Outlook to iPad mini.

I'm attempting to import my contacts from Outlook to my iPad mini. I use a Bigpond email address. I've been into iTunes and found the option to "sync contacts" but after I've selected the "Apply" button the contacts do not appear on my iPad. Can someone offer a numbered method to achieve importing contacts? Thanks.
