Dec 22, 2014 8:39 AM in response to Jrmendo44by IdrisSeabright,What label you have next to his phone number in contacts is irrelevant. It has zero effect on whether or not your message gets sent as an iMessage.
Do you have an active data connection (either WiFi or cellular)? Is your cousin registerd with iMessage? Do they have an active data connection?

Dec 22, 2014 8:59 AM in response to Jrmendo44by IdrisSeabright,As I said, the label DOES NOT matter. What matters is whether you both had an active data connection (WiFi or cellular). If either of you do not, the message will get sent as an SMS (green) message.

Dec 22, 2014 10:34 AM in response to Jrmendo44by IdrisSeabright,Not on either end, on both ends. You BOTH have to have an active data connection. If one of you does but the other doesn't, the message will be sent as an SMS. Note: one of you could be on WiFi and the other cellular, that would be fine.
