Q: How can I install FCP 7 on my new iMac when it already has FCP X installed? The FCP 7 installer allows me to install the other FCS apps (Compressor, etc.), but not the old FCP 7 itself, which I need to finish a big, years-old project.
Install FCP 7 on iMac with FCP X?
I bought a new iMac (OS 10.9.5) and installed FCP X for new projects, but now I would like to install FCP 7 (from FCS 2009) to complete an old, big project that I've been working on for years on my old Mac Mini. All of the other FCS apps (Compressor, Motion, etc.) installed with no problem from the FCS CDs, but the Installer greys out FCP itself (with the word 'Skip' appearing next to it). I created a separate "Final Cut Studio" folder within the Applications directory and moved all the FCS apps there, restarted, and tried again to install FCP 7, but the Installer still greys it out.
If I change the name of FCP X in the Applications directory from "Final Cut Pro" --> to "Final Cut Pro X," will the installer CDs then let me install FCP 7, put it in the new "FCS" folder, and then remove the X from the name in the Applications folder, will that work? From what I've read, FCP 7 and FCP X coexist just fine within the same Applications folder as long as they are housed within different sub-directories (to keep all the supporting files distinct), but I don't want to mess up (or re-install) FCP X.
Thank you in advance.
iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), FCP X already installed
