When attempting synch iTunes photos tab yields spinning ball.

When synching my iPhone or iPad a spinning wheel appears when on the photos tab in iTunes. In other words, I cannot select photos to transfer from my iMac to my iPad or iPhone. The spinning wheel never goes away while on the photos tab. Other tabs work as intended and the remainder of the synch goes well. Perhaps a coincidence, but the problem appeared when I first try to synch my new iPhone 6+. My iMac is operating with Yosemite 10.10.1.

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.

1. Turn off and restart the mobile device.

2. If the device is connected via USB, connect it to a built-in port on the computer, not to a hub. If it's already connected to a built-in port, try a different one. Also try a different cable, if you have one. You can also try to sync over Wi-Fi.

3. Delete the iPod Photo Cache. Quit and relaunch iTunes.

4. Check the names of all albums and slideshows in iPhoto. The names should contain only plain letters and digits, not any punctuation marks or other characters. Rename them if necessary.

5. Remove the soundtrack from any iPhoto slideshows that have one. If sync now works, you may be able to restore the soundtracks.

6. Repair or rebuild the iPhoto library. Be sure to back it up first.

The problem appears when attempting to select pictures for syncing with multiple devices (iPad, iPhone, and IPod). So likely not the device.

The pictures I want to select for syncing are not in iPhoto, they are at Finder>Pictures. Been selecting pictures this way for syncing for over two years.

Deleted all iPod Photo Cache files. Problem still exits.

Changed cables and USB port. Problem still exits.

The spinning ball is not the multi-color death star that appears with a system problem. It is a small black and white ball that rotates in the middle of the screen.

Everything but pictures syncs fine.

Thank you, Donald

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to sync. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Linc,

I don’t know what happened, but now sync with photos works fine. Concurrent with the sync problem I had another problem present. My iMac could not print. It did not recognize the HP wireless printer. So while we were working the sync problem I was searching for a solution to the printing problem.

One of the recommendations for solving the printing problem was to shut down everything; network, printer, devices, and iMac. I did that. After I started everything again the printer resumed printing. So, I wondered if that fix flowed over to my sync problem. It did and the sync is working. The pictures selection tab in iTunes is working and they sync to my new iPhone 6+.

I always find miraculous unexplained solutions alarming. Do you have any ides?
