Q: microsoft office crashes when trying to print

Hi, upgraded my Mac from Maverick to Yosemite and now my Excel, Word, Powerpoint randomly crash when i try to print (doesnt matter if i try to print to an actual printer or make it into a pdf.). At the beginning I noticed that especially it happened when i want to print just 1 page out of a longer Word document OR i am changing from letter to ledger size in Excel but now there is no rhyme or reason.

I did the Office updates, re-started obviously but as i am not very good at this software troubleshooting then i am at loss...

Hopefully someone can help!

I've had a similar problem, Word crashing when I try to print –  but could print pdf, no problem in Excel or anything else. I tried all the ideas suggested above, which didn't' change anything. Then, finally, I closed all the open Word files, restarted Word. And then no problem! I was able to open my previously open files, and then were okay. I then localized the problem: a template that I had created. Don't know why this should have created such a problem, perhaps somehow got corrupted. Well, I'm happy that I solved my own problem. Pehraps a starting point for others (and myself, if/when this reoccurs).

    Hi John,

I'm having the same issue.  Could you help me?  I'm on a MacBook Air, and each time I try to print a certain document on Excel, it crashes.  It doesn't happen with other documents (I don't think).  I read other threads that suggested turning off the print preview, and that didn't help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!  I can post the crash report, although I don't know how to do that.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.

Ashley, you can find the crash log in Utilities/Console , and you should find an Excel crash log in "System Diagnostic Reports" that corresponds to your attempt to print.

Have you updated the drivers for your printer, if necessary.

John Blanchard is correct. Usually saving a printing preset would cause this crash.

New drivers were released by Sharp a few weeks back to solve this issue.

Now if we could only get a fix that would allow Pages to close after printing my world would

    be drama free.
