alternative access to hardware diagnostics

Are there alternative ways to get into Hardware Diagnostics? Holding down D (with or without Option) at startup has no effect, probably because I'm using a third-party wireless keyboard. I no longer have the keyboard that came with the computer. And I "upgraded" from 10.6 to 10.9 (currently 10.9.3) online, so I have no disks ... and a CD might not work anyway, because the hardware I'm trying to get more information about is the SuperDrive.

The answer to my question may or may not turn out to be the same as the answer to this:

How to start Apple Diagnostics using Terminal?

but I thought I'd better not hijack his thread just yet.

iMac intel, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
