Q: Remote install, MBP and SL (10.6.8)

Because I have one of those buggy, "sometimes-works-usually-doesn't" Superdrives on my 2006 MBP (MacBookPro1,1 - NO RETINA DISPLAY), I'd like to be able to access the Install Disc I bought from Apple (retail) from an external DVD drive attached to a Windows XPHome (SP 3) computer on my network.  I can access the Win comp's CD drive and the DVD drive on the MBP over the network (wireless, WPA), and I can access the Boot Camp part of the SL Install disc, but I can't get to the Remote Install disc part on the MBP (hold down Option at reboot, only see the hard drive icon). I can even watch a DVD movie on the MBP from the DVD drive attached to the Win comp.

I read these articles, followed the instructions, performed the hack in link #2, but still can't see the remote install part of the disc at (option) reboot screen.  Am I missing something here?  My eventual goal is to have a way to run disk repair from some other place than my buggy-*** Superdrive (since it usually doesn't work) or to be able to re-install SL if the need arises.
