Q: MacBook will not boot. Single beep (error code?) about every 10 seconds.

MacBook Pro, about 7 years old? OSx 10.7, I think, could be 10.8. It will not boot up. Screen remains black, with a beep and light on front about every ten seconds until I hold down the power button to turn it off. Any ideas?

The local repair shop thinks it may need a new mother board and it should go to Apple for a fix.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

Look at this support article:

Take out the RAM, clean the contacts and reinstall it. Make certain that the modules are properly seated.

If on change, do make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. They will evaluate it for FREE, but they may not offer to repair it if it is considered too old.
