Can you purchase after market display screens with retina display?

I was told the screens you can buy from a repair shop are the same OEM display screen used by apple suppliers. I don't think this is true but want to confirm.

Sites like iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com sell Mac parts from cannibalized Macs, at let that is my understanding. I know of no third party that actually sell new retina displays to the public.
