Q: This card is already in Passbook

I was having battery issues and reset all settings on my iPhone 6 OS 8.1.2 When I opened Passbook, my pre-existing credit card did not appear and I was prompted to enter a new card. I scanned the card that was used prior to the reset. When validating the card, I get the "This card is already in Passbook" dialog. I see no reference to the card in my iTunes account or anywhere on the iPhone. When the initial reset was completed, I received a notification form the card holder telling me that the card was removed from Apple Pay Account.

I've reset the device multiple times, waited hours and continue to get the already in Passbook error. Web searches have revealed nothing. Any suggestions on how to resolve this situation? I'm totally stumped.

    Thanks for responding Rudy!

I kept resetting my device because there was a problem texting one person. They are able to text me but I can't send text to them. When I factory reset the phone I can text them, but when restoring with my data from backup I can't text them anymore, but they can still text me. It's very frustrating and I called up both Verizon and Apple to fix the issue. Apple/Verizon kept saying it wasn't a problem on their end and finally Apple told me that there was no way I could properly restore my game/log data as there must be a glitch/problem in the backup that stops me from being able to text this one person. After factory resetting my device (as told) and restoring it, I now have this APPLE pay problem.

This is my very first iPhone, I bought it one month ago and I'm very disappointed.

I'm going to the Apple Store on Monday. I hope they give me a new phone and not some refurbished rubbish.

    Just wanted to update.

I went to the Apple Store with this problem and they replaced my phone. They could not give me a reason why ApplePay wouldn't accept my card, again.

This issue is NOT with AMEX. Don't call AMEX with this problem, they can't help you.

I tried all of the above suggestions to no avail.

On a lark, I installed the iOS 8.4 update, and was then able to add my card.

    Hope this helps.

    1. Backup iPhone on computer (encrypted)

    2. Erase All Content and Settings

    3. Set up iPhone as a new phone

    4. Create a new apple ID with a new iCloud e-mail

    5. Finish set-up

    6. Go to iTunes & App Store

    7. Sign out of new apple ID

    8. Sign in with original apple ID

    9. Add the credit card in question to passbook

    10. Restore iPhone from existing backup

That's it.  Don't ask me why it worked, but it did for my iPhone 6.

    I have the same issue.

Tried different ways, finally find a solution:

In Setting => iTune & App Store => sign out your current Apple ID.

Then, login with a different Apple ID, in my case, my wifes.

You will now able to add the card that has the issue before.

You can log out and login your Apple ID afterward, you will find everything's fine now...
