2012 13 inch macbook pro a1278 black screen

Hello,

I have a macbook pro 13 inch and last night it was working perfectly fine. Screen turns on and everything. This morning I tried to turn it on like 4 time. Holding the power button. I figured something was wrong. I asked around and someone told me to get a flashlight and point it towards the screen and it had life. Meaning the screen was on but there was like no light going through. Also I remembered in the morning the keyboard was working totally fine. I've called apple and they told me to turn it on with holding the option+control+shift and the shift alone and another key but nothing. So what do you guys think is wrong? The keyboard lights up with light but the screen doesn't? The brightness is turned up all the way. Can anyone help me out please? I desperately want this computer fixed. Apple also told me to take to the apple store but I don't want to be paying alot of parts I don't need. Please Help Thank you!

First it would help to know the exact year of your MacBook Pro.

"Do you think it's the lp8550 chip?"

Don't know what that is?

"The brightness is turned up all the way."

Try turning brightness all the way off (F1 key) then up slowly with the F2 key.

Could be a bad backlight connection. Does changing the angle of the display make anything happen?

Bad inverter board.

Bad backlight.

i have the same mbp. and had the same problem once. is the apple logo light up when you power on mbp? if not the video cable may be making a bad connection.i was able to fix my mbp simply by opening up my mbp and disconnecting the video cable and then reattaching it. make sure you use the right tools and power off the mbp and disconnect the battery before performing repair task.

OK, Mid 2012:

Try reseating RAM that can often cause a display problem.

"Don't think it's the inverter since that helps turn on the backlight on."

Actually the inverter bumps the 5 V. ? from the logic board and bumps it up to high voltage to drive the back light.

Checks you could try would be to check the input voltage to the inverter board. Check the inverter cable for shorts. These are easily seen on close inspection. If there is a short it could have taken out the tiny fuse that's on the logic board. Or the inverter board itself could be bad. Sub board repairs would require known good replacements. I have identified that fuse but on an earlier model and repaired it after replacing the inverter cable but no tech would go that far.
