Q: Can I put an event on iCloud?

I recently bought an MacBook Pro that I really don't want to waist TOO much space on, and I also have a camera that I recently got from a relative. I took some pictures, and I was wondering if I can out an event on iCloud from iPhoto without waisting space, because my iPhone backs up to iCloud, and I have like 1 GB or less. Thanks for your time

Do you want your photos in iCloud to save space on your devices, or to access them on all devices?

You could use iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on your iPhone (iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ). You can set it up with the "Optimize Storage" option. This will keep only previews locally on the iPhone an the full resolution photos in iCloud. Your Mac can access the photos on  iCloud web interface, without needing space on the MacBook Pro ( https://www.icloud.com/#photos). But iCloud Photo Library Beta will count against your iCloud storage.

Why not create an iPhoto Library on an external drive, if you need to save space on your Mac? and only upload a few selected photos to iCloud Photo Library (Beta) that you need to access everywhere?

I want to see them on all devices, and doesn't the photo library take up space on iCloud? Like I said, I don't have that much space on iCloud, and I don't have a credit card for a yearly cost.

And I don't have an external drive

The iCloud Photo Library (Beta) counts against your iCloud Storage, yes. But it does not use much space on your iPhone, iPad, and you can browse it on iCloud without using space on yor MacBook Air.

If you can sacrifice storage on your Mac and mobile devices, use Shared Photo Streams. They do not count against your iCloud storage, and you can see them on all devices.   iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ - Apple Support  http://support.apple.com/HT202786

Wait, till the photos have uploaded to the Shared Stream and you are seeing them on all your devices.  Make at least one backup copy of the photos and keep it safe.

Only then you can delete the originals from the events in your iPhoto Library - but not from the iCloud section and the Shared Stream.

But the backup copy is essential. network problems can make it necessary to reset the shared streams. They are not really meant to be a permanent storage.  If you want to use iCloud as the main storage, take precautions for the rare moments when network problem will make the iCloud inaccessible, or transmission errors corrupt data.

I just looked at my shared streams in Aperture, and right now they are showing all missing originals, like this: (half an hour ago all was fine)

    And corrupted thumbnails:
