Can't get Back to My Mac working in Time Capsule

I just bought a brand new Airport Time Capsule. The internet works. It's the sole router in the network. I wanted to set up Back to My Mac. When I try to enter my apple id and credentials, I get a cryptic error: "An error occurred signing in."

And that's it. No other hints on what's wrong or how to fix it.

Anyone have any ideas?

For anyone else with this problem, I logged out of iCloud under System Preferences, then remained logged out, and then retried adding my iCloud credentials to the Base Station tab of the Airport Utility and that worked.
