battery

Hi

I have a problem with my iPhone 5 battery life - it shuts down when the charge was shown to be around 25% and when trying to turn it back on, it either indicates that the battery needs recharging or turn on only for a few seconds before shutting down again. Does the battery needs replacing or is there any remedy that I can apply to improve the situation?
