Q: trackpad super sensitive

Macbook Air 13" running 10.9.5.

Periodically the trackpad sensitivity temporarily goes up and any touch clicks or selects whatever the cursor is on.  It will drag icons out of the doc or move files/folders all over the place.  I have to stop using it or use a mouse until it quits.  It may be connected with when CarboniteDaemon is running.  An thoughts?  I see lots of other people have the problem but I don't see any responses to explain or fix it.
