Q: Why has Safari 8 in Yosemite become painfully slow
Why has Safari 8 in Yosemite become painfully slow in spite of having cleared cache and history? After entering an URL it starts loading then pauses for quite some time. Often get coloured beach ball when changing to other tabs where the page that was already loaded is blank and starts to reload.

None of the software installed on the computer has anything at all to do with the problem. That much is certain. If you connect to the router via Wi-Fi, please connect with Ethernet, turn off Wi-Fi, and test.
