Can my Macbook upgrade to Yosemite?

So, I have a white Macbook Mid 2010 model and it is still running Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I was wondering on updating to 10.6.8 and then upgrading to OS X Yosemite. The Mac has 2GB of DDR3 RAM and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. Is it going to be good at running Yosemite? Also, I don't have any important documents, I use the Mac for games. The game files are saved in Dropbox.

I want my issue to be resolved ASAP since I need to livestream my gameplay today. Thanks!

10.6.8 Combo Updater

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.

To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher

Your Mac needs:

  • OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
  • 2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
  • 8 GB or more of available space

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

Do a backup before installing.

If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.
