iphoto cropping all my images to faces

iphoto told me today it needed to update. Fine. When it had finished....every one of my 40k images were gone. When rebuilding the database, I got all the images back but every images that had a face in it was cropped to the face and everything else was removed from the image. Basically about 70% of my images were modified by iphoto.

How can I get my original photos back without this annoying "faces" feature cropping everything?
