I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from my old Macbook Pro to my new one (15.4' MBP Retina running Yosemite 10.10.1) and Migration Assistant is hanging with 'about a minute left'. I'm migrating about 650GB from a TimeMachine backup. I left it running over night but it never finished.
What can I try to get this thing to work?

Force a restart by holding down the power button for a few seconds. See what happens.

Leave it running longer. It will finish eventually (mine took over 12 hours).

My transfer of a mere 98 GBs went for 24 hours and still didn't finish. I stopped Migration and tried using Thunderbolt several times. Nothing more transferred. I tried DisK utility etc etc, still no use
