Q: How do I stop migration once started.

I Started migration but it's going to take 12 hrs. I'd rather transfer fewer item and play with my new iMac sooner.

    Leave it be, if you are doing the migration wirelessly it will likely take much longer than 12 hours though. NEVER using Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to do a wireless migration, the best method to use is to use the old machine's Time Machine backup and migrate from the backup drive to the new computer.
