How long should I keep my iPhone in rice after dropping it in water?

I dropped it in the toilet by mistake and quickly removed it. It was still on and the screen was still half working. I finally turned it off and placed it in a zip lock bag full of rice. I'm not sure how long to keep in there but I'm anxious to see what the outcome is...

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.1, 4 month old iPhone, no full storage

At least 5 days, preferably a week, and expect to replace it at some point. The iPhone is not at all forgiving when it comes to water damage.

Even if it's working fine after you let it dry out, you may want to bring it in and get it replaced if you are very dependent on your phone. It could (and probably will) start malfunctioning to the point where it won't be usable before too long.
