Is there a way to delete all duplicates, other than one by one? some free program or does itunes have one to just identify and delete all duplicates in the library?
How do I delete duplicates in my library as a group, rather than one by one?

Under the View menu select "Show Duplicates." See if that helps you.
I know how to find the duplicates, I want to delete them in one shot. not one by one.
It's a mess. I imported playlists and music from my MAC onto my PC and now I have thousands of duplicates. I want a free program to find them all and delete them. I used to have one that a friend put on for free but no more. Any ideas?
Try creating a new playlist with only the duplicates, then delete all the entries in the playlist by deleting the playlist. I seem to remember that once worked for me a long while back.
Or you can visit Macupdate.com and look for a utility that locates duplicates and assists in removing them. You would need to apply it in the folder that contains the actual music files.
yes but I think the playlist will be deleted but the songs stay in the library.. But I'll try. thank you
no not working. I'm going to try and search for a free duplicate delete program
Then do a Select All in the playlist (COMMAND-checkbox or OPTION-checkbox), then CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the selection and click on the Delete option in the context menu.
Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.
