Q: Family Share

I set up my son's iPad mini using an email address that I don't use that often. I still want to limit his purchases/have to approve of the apps he downloads before he can actually download them. Is this possible??

iPad Mini, iOS 8.1.2

    Hi there laramik09,

     

    It sounds like you want to be able to approve purchases made with this other Apple ID you have setup for your son on his device. Ths can be done with Family Sharing, and here is some more info on that:

    I have Family Sharing set up. When I go to Setting> iCloud> Family> and select my son's name (it even says "adult" under his name). Turning on Ask to Buy is not an available option. I have even tried "Create an Apple ID for a child" but it will not work because it is not finding my credit card information (that is showing on the screen.) I'm sure it's an easy fix, but it's not working for me.

    Thank you for the update. Ask to by is only available for non adults according to the second article provided, so what you are experiencing is expected:

     

    Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy

    Ask to Buy is on by default for any children under 13, and you'll be asked if you want to enable Ask to Buy when inviting anyone under 18 to your family group.* If you turn off Ask to Buy for a family member after they turn 18,* you can't turn it on again.
