When I connect my MacBook Air to my TV using Apple TV, the audio stays on my MacBook and does not transfer to my TV. Thus the volume is very low when I am watching a Movie on my TV and I have to listen to the volume from my laptop. How can I fix this?

When I connect my MacBook to my television using Apple TV the audio stays on the MacBook and doesn't transfer to the TV. How can I make it so I can hear the Movie or Video through my TV's speakers and not my MacBook's?
