Your iPhoto issue should be addressed in another discussion of your own making;
though several answers exist, some may not appear to work out for you if details
of your Mac configuration and ownership history vary from the ideal state...
an idea from a prior time (things change) was posted by the guy at this other site
that may not fully apply now at this time; but was current many months ago and
only under circumstances like he suggested: (may not work or apply to you)

Be sure to have a complete backup of your computer contents, and if you have a
time machine, be sure it has a recent backup with the iPhoto item, before proceeding.
If you are the original owner of the computer and it shipped with iPhoto or you bought
a version from the App Store, you may be able to 'Trash' iPhoto from your Applications
folder and then go to the App Store to (see if) your iPhoto appears in previously bought
purchases; if so, it May be possible to download a more recent version. It would be big.
However this does vary depending on the previous version of iPhoto (if you had Mavericks
and then upgraded to Yosemite, the older 9.5 version iPhoto is what you had. It is not a
compatible version in Yosemite, so you'd need iPhoto 9.6.1. Be sure to study this topic
and try to read and understand the similar discussions in these ASC boards.
Try the suggestions offered by Old Toad to see if you can resolve this other issue, first. 😐
(your iPhoto library will not be affected by newer Photos, it has its own library, btw.)
