Q: 3G NETWORK

So ive been using my iphone 3gs which my aunt gave to me for weeks now. And whenever i turn on my cellular data first the EDGE the signal was fine but the speed is not consistent sometimes the speed was good and sometimes its not loading. But the worst is my 3G network. Whenever i turn on my 3G the signal always says "NO SERVICE" this happens wherever i go. How to fix this? Please help me.

I'm not sure I know why you would turn off either of the Cellular Data or Enable 3G options if you want to access data services on your iPhone. You can leave them on and scroll down to limit apps at a granular level to Wi-Fi only if there are some apps you would prefer not to make use of your data allowance.

Settings > General > Reset Network Settings may resolve the 3G connection issue.

See also iOS: Updating your carrier settings - Apple Support and update your carrier settings if appropriate.

Could you limit cellular data use in iOS 6? I thought that came out with iOS 7, but I could be misremembering.

Joe Hannes: Where are you and what carrier are you using? Many carriers are in the process of completely shutting down their EDGE networks. Very few carriers use incompatible 3G networks, but their are a few.

there are 2 reason why i turn it off. First is when not in use to avoid charges and second is that i try to refresh by turning it off and on. What do you mean to limit apps at a granular level?

KiltedTim is probably right that I'm thinking about a feature introduced in iOS7. When I scroll down on the Settings > Cellular screen I get to a section headed USE CELLULAR DATA FOR which lets me control which apps are allowed to use cellular data. In truth I've only disabled one or two since most apps will only ever use the data channel when they are active, and presumably if I've fired one up to use it then I want it to be able to get the data that it needs.

It may be better to power cycle the phone as a whole or do a reset network settings if there are issues getting connected to the cellular data service. It depends where you are but 3G coverage can be patchy in some areas. It drops out in several places on my journey to work for example. There are bits of Suffolk I travel through occasionally where there is no service at all, voice or data with my provider.

So in conclusion, i should reset my settings knowing that maybe it will fix my problem?

Yes, maybe it will, it depends on the cause. You can reset network settings without losing any data, but you will need to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords. If that doesn't work you can try backing up the device, restoring as a new device, then restoring your backup. You should probably test 3G before restoring your backup. You should also check with your cell provider to see if there is supposed to be 3G coverage in your area. Perhaps you had roaming enabled at one point and it was using another supplier.
