Printer: error 9672 with Epson R1800

Hallo readers,

I've seen the error 9672 addressed a number of times in this forum, but these generally concern HP printers. My problem is that my Epson R1800 printer will not add to the printer list. I have installed the lastest Epson R1800 driver 2.1.a and the last MacOs update 10.4.8.
My computer detects the printer, as I can even do an ink update. The thing is when I try to add the Epson R1800 printer to the printer list the error message 9672 pops up. Even the peole at epson are all ?????
My printer is connected via fast USB port on the front of the computer.
Have tried it with firewire but same error appeared.

Anyone? Help would be much appreciated.

I have the same problem since trying to upgrade to OS 10.4.8. I can't even see the printer driver on my MacBook after installing Epson's latest upgrade for Intel machines. No luck with the printer setup utility, even after resetting printer options.

Hi - try this - it worked for me.

Reinstall the printer driver, but FIRST select "deinstall" in the drop-down install/deinstall menu in the Epson installer software.

This will remove all the bits and pieces of files (several hundreds of them) related to the printer driver that are spread out all over your disk.

THEN install the printer driver.

I did this and had no probles selecting the printer.

I advise taking additional precautions just in case, like repairing permissions using the Apple disk utility and re-starting the computer, but maybe I'm just getting paranoid after a bad experience with OSX 10.4.8...
