Q: dis-associate ipod from account

How do I remove my sons ipod from my wifes account and add it to his account that I just created? One of the issues is even though the ipod is attached to my wife's account, if I look under devices it is not listed, but there are two ipads listed and we only have one ipad. I also want to make sure we don't loose all the music we have downloaded onto the ipod. HELP.

You should not leave personal info, like your e-mail address on a  public forum.

in theory this should work, but it is not listed under Manage Devices, but there are two iPADs listed. I don't think the system would confuse an ipod with an ipad. If it does, how do I check which is which? The biggest reason to remove the association is that my sons's ipod receives all text messages sent to my wife's iphone and vice versa. Also, he runs out of space quickly becuase they share the same itunes account, everytime my wifes downloands something to her iphone, it downloads to the ipod as well.

    For Messages problem see:

MacMost Now 653: Setting Up Multiple iOS Devices For Messages and FaceTime

For automatic downloads go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and turn off automatic downloads.

Otherwise it is associated since both devices are using the same Apple ID

    CHANGE ID

The ID is used in the following locations and you  have to change them.

    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive

    Settings>FaceTime

    Settings>GameCenter

    Settings>iCloud

    and Settings>iTunes and App store

You  have to sign out of ID (for iCloud you delete the iCloud account from the iPod) and sign in with other ID.

Note the following are resolved if you  use Family Sharing (iOS 8 and later):

    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.

    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

If the iPod has iOS 7 or later then you have the enter the password for Apple ID presently sign in Settings>iCloud.

Also, a Restriction can be set (Settings>General>Restrictions) the prevents changing accounts

the ipod is version 6.1.6.  I got everything turned off from his mom's account and on to his apple ID, so thanks. Issue now is how do I associate his ipod with is itunes account on the computer? So when I log onto his account, I see his ipod?
