Q: Problems with the iTunes store

In V 10.7, I reach the store, but in the Search area when I enter something generic like 'Argentine Tango' or even just 'Tango', I get a 'Microsoft Visual C++" error message & the iTunes program closes. All of the Microsoft documents point to 'Visual C++' errors being related to the program that I'm trying to use - namely a problem within iTunes.

In V 10.7 I never used to have this problem, & over the years I bought a lot of stuff from the iTunes store.

In V 12, which I tried very recently, it is even worse. When I click on the 'iTunes Store', a message says 'iTunes has stopped working correctly' & it closes.

So something has been changed in the iTunes store program. This is Apples loss more than mine, because I don't buy a lot of new stuff these days, & I'm sure that if look around I can find other places to buy the music that interests me.

But some explanation of the problem & solutions would be appreciated.

    Hi there bob.v,

I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the article below if iTunes is repeatedly and unexpectedly quitting.

Thanks Griff. The article you point me too is much too technical for me & all the work is not worthwhile.

Today I found a Website that specializes in the music I like. It is a bit more expensive than iTunes but their selection of music is far more extensive than iTunes.

So I've reinstalled V 10.7 & I'll stay with that & I'll just keep away from the iTunes Store.

thanks again for your time & trouble.

Actually I did try again. A clean uninstall of my reinstalled V 10.7, then reinstalled V 12.

I had to spend time 'cleaning up' my three Libraries, but they are now back to the way they should be.

Then I tried the iTunes Store in each of the three Libraries & now it works OK.

I guess that the two important steps here were -

Doing the 'clean uninstall' of existing iTunes, then a full install of the latest version..

'Cleaning up' my new Libraries instead of confusing the matter by looking for 'Previous Libraries'.

I still don't find any real benefit to me from V 12 vs. V 10.7, but I suppose that having the latest version will be beneficial in the long run.

    Thanks for your help.
