Reminders sync to Daylite and Sunrise Calendars

i am trying to do something that should be very easy in OSX 10.whatever but things do not seem to be working as anticipated. i am

i am trying to integrate my Reminders app with my calendar and i am putting DAYS in Reminder so that these show up ON A DAY.

i am using Daylite and Sunrise on OSX to try and test this. these apps are very nice complements to Calendar however i am seeing /some/ Reminders in a "To Do" list that are set to show up on a day showing up in Sunrise app and i am showing /other/ Reminders in a "To Do" list that are set to show up on a day as showing up in Daylite app for OSX.

these Reminders were set for the 18th and 19th of this month so i can test this in upcoming days with test reminders but i don't understand why SOME of these older ones show up on in one app but not in the other.

Reminders and Calendar are separate. Reminders won't show up in the Calendar app (even though both applications store data in the same server area). This is by design.

In fact, they both used to show in iCal prior to OS X Mountain Lion, but since then they've been in separate locations.

The easiest way to see them together is to put Reminders and Calendar next to each other in Notification Center ;-)

Otherwise, Daylite can probably do it, but that's a $300 program and it's fairly complex to set up and manage (you need to run a Postgres database server on a machine you always have running).

OK. i mispoke.

the issue is in busycal and in sunrise apps where i am seeing some of my reminders in one and some in another. this means that only some of my reminders are being synced to these apps. basically i am testing calendar apps that can help me integrate my needs a little more. iphone is sort of critical in this so the fact that sunrise has an app for the iphone is critical.

OK. this is too hard for me to understand.

i am looking at appointments in busycal and sunrise and i am seeing SOME show up in sunrise and SOME show up in busycal. it appears that some /may/ have been added in busycal and they do not show up in reminders - so they can't get to sunrise but that doesn't

can you look at the 17th here in busycal and sunrise for instance? i was starting to think that maybe the issue is that events created in busycal show up in busycal but that they do not make their way back to reminders - and this is why i see the difference in events in the two apps - but there are events that show up in REMINDERS and show up in sunrise and do not show up in busycal!

apparently there is some reason why i can't get reminders on my calendar app which is pretty much how most of us live our lives in the so-boring-practical-non-digital-analog-world...

Actually, "most of us" don't live this way.

Tasks are not appointments. They rarely have a specific due _time_. Most frequently "due dates" are artificially assigned constructs. If something actually MUST be done at a specific date or time, generally it goes on your calendar. Other things can be tasks.

I think if you want to mix things like this you should forget about using Reminders _and_ BusyCal or Sunrise Calendar and just use one of the latter two programs.

hi william, eric.

trying to get organized here.

i have this question in to both the app developers since i am not sure if can get an answer on how this is affected by the behavior of Reminders app.

can i just ask you here if there is a way to figure out how to get these three calendars from the ON MY MAC section of my laptop to show up in my iCloud account as the other calendars do? these were exported from google as .ics and imported to Calendar but i don't understand why they show up in the On My Mac section as since this is where they reside they will not sync with my other devices...User uploaded file

hi william.

thanks. correct me if i am missing something or in error here.

the issue i am having is that Reminders has the really awesome location awareness thingamajig which is uber helpful. it also has the ability to set a specific day and at a specific time. the only thing it does not appear to let me do - for some reason - is to set a specific day /without/ a specific time. also i don't think it lets me set an alert which calendar events obviously do.

the other pretty dumb thing i can see about reminders is that there does not appear to be a way to let me have notifications show me reminders for THAT DAY and the NEXT DAY or NEXT WEEK /first/ and instead it shows me past due events which i really don't want to see at the front (i really, really, really don't want to see old reminders before i see reminders for the next couple of days...). this is a real pain and prevents me from organizing my reminders.

also, the problem i am having is that making anything categorically one thing or another is very difficult and i tend to use my paper calendar in all sorts of ways. i use it to set "hard" appointments but i also use it to set "soft" reminders. sometimes these get moved to the next page and sometimes i take notes on older dates where there is space to write.

so basically what i am finding is that notifications is pretty good but not very good for showing me reminders. reminders is pretty good at being location aware. notifications is /pretty/ good at helping me get my schedule together. so i am trying to find something that works better for me.

and right now i use calendar in a kind of pavlov's monkey sort of way where i set an alert for half and hour and an hour in advance and when the phone dings i look down to see what i have to do, then i get organized to go somewhere - and when it dings a second time i get in my truck and i go.

right now nothing on the mac helps me get my schedule together the way i need to.

i currently use other apps to organize important chunks or data or for long lists of information but right now i don't see anything that would replace reminders - and i really don't see a need to move from reminders. all i really need is a calendar that will let me integrate these better.

hi eric.

the second calendar is busycal and on the 17th and 18th there are appointments that don't show up in Reminders. i am assuming that this is because i /added/ the reminders when i was in busycal.

this means that appointments added in busycal are not making it back to reminders but i am not sure if this is supposed to happen.

however, the first image is sunrise and on the 17th you can see some events that ARE in reminders and which do show up in sunrise but which /don't/ show up in busycal so i am not sure i understand what is going on.

also, one thing about sunrise is that the iphone app is really awesome and there is no app for iphone for BC.

THANKS

No,

If you are using the iCloud account then only items in that account will appear on every device, items in the "On My Mac" account will only appear in applications with access to that account, i.e. your Mac.

You need to choose a single account, an online one if you want all calendars on all devices to show the same events and (f they can handle them) reminders. BusyCal integrates correctly with iCloud reminders, I have no idea whether Sunrise does. Why use 2 calendars (esp one with mediocre reviews) when BusyCal is easily the best out there.

All iCloud calendar apps have IOS apps, Calendar and Reminders on the IOS device are the client apps.

Stop thinking in terms of apps. You should have 1 iCloud account and whatever variety of apps you choose to look at it through.

hi eric.

point taken.

however i am using reminders on osx and syncing with my icloud account so that it goes to all devices (i am doing the same with calendar).

i am also syncing the two calendar apps that i am testing with the icloud account.

the issue is that when looking at reminders in these two apps and testing things out i am not seeing some reminders in one app that i am seeing in the other and i am seeing reminders in one app that i am not seeing in the other.

it is possible i actually created reminders in busycal but this does not explain why these don't sync with reminders app unless they are not supposed to sync which seems very weird.

but weirder still is that i have reminders set for a certain date in reminder app and these show up in sunrise whereas they /don't/ show up at all in busycal.

this means that at least this piece of data is not making it to busycal which is a big problem and it also means that reminders added in busycal don't make it back to reminders (which is important to know as i don't know if it is a bug or it is designed like this).

THANKS

Then you are doing it wrong, and with a mediocre app thrown in.

Go over the basics, again.

What account did you create them in, and how do you know what you did?
