changing Podcast thumbnails?

i working on my first Podcast page. I created the artwork in Photoshop, dragged and dropped that into my podcast in Garageband, and then exported the podcast to disk and then inserted it into a Podcast new entry template. Now, obviously in the entry page, when you drop the podcast in the placeholder, it shows the first graphic in the podcast.

I was wondering if its possible to have a different image on the podcast thumbnail when you are on the main podcast page? if so, how do I do it. Currently, the thumbnail shows the same image that is on the entry page.

thanks for any and all insight.

The thumbnail image on the main podcast page draws directly from the placeholder image on the entry page...as you know. But what you probably don't realize is that the placeholder image doesn't have to be the main image on your entry page.

For example....try this....

Do you have an image in mind that you want for the thumbnail image??? If so, go ahead and drop the image into the placeholder on the entry page. It should show up in the thumbnail, right? Good. Now here's what I want you to try... on the entry page and with the placeholder image selected, open up the Inspector and click to the Metrics tab. Click on the box that says "Use original size". See how the placeholder image changes? Now make sure that the "constrain" box above that is checked. Now change one of the parameters...either width or height....to make the placeholder image itty bitty...like 100 pixels or something. Finally, click over to the Inspector Graphics tab. All the way at the bottom you should see the opacity slider. Type 0% into the box...... Pooof! The placeholder image is invisible. But look on the main podcast page....the thumbnail is still there!

Does this give you any ideas? It should. My point is that you can simply use the placeholder image on the entry pages only to provide the link to the thumbnail on the main podcast page. Then you can get it out of the way. THEN you can put any number of other images onto your podcast entry page to make it as snazzy as you want. Each podcast entry is like an individual webpage. Create!

ok, it sorta answers my question but not totally. I appreciate your detailed reply. what I really need to do is have two different images- one image on the entry page, and a different image on the podcast main page. if your explanation allows me to do that, then great. i'll just have to read over it again and give it a go.

one thing I noticed is that when you are on the main podcast page, there is no way to select the thumbnail image. its as if the thumbnail is locked inside the template. you can see that the thumbnail is simply a hyperlink and should be easy to replace with a different photo/image if you can only access it.

You can't change the thumbnail on the main page. The thumbnail is part of the template and draws directly from the placeholder image on the entry page.

Yes, you can have one image for the thumbnail (by placing the image into the placeholder on the entry page) and another image on the entry page (by simply dragging in another image onto the page (but not into the placeholder...the original placeholder image [thumbnail image] can be hidden either behind the image you want for the entry page or by making it completely invisible with the opacity setting.
