MacBook not turning on.

My macbook won't power on when the AC adapter is plugged in to it and it won't charge the battery either, all that happens when the adapter is hooked up is that when the battery indicator button is pressed it will flash for about five seconds and then go off. Then when the indicator isn't attached it won't even do that.
