Windows 98 is a tad old school. You'll need Windows XP SP3 at minimum.

Your answer is a little beyond me, I feel I would push a wrong button somewhere. I am also having trouble getting my music on to my IPod now. I have restored it as suggested as I was trying to reload some music . I put a heap of music where I used to put it and clicked for it to transfer and nothing trf to to IPod.....hope you can help Glenda

No change in the advice regarding how to download the current version of iTunes.
If you have difficulty downloading the iTunes installer file try; unticking the "Keep me up to date..." box, clearing your browser's cache, changing pop-up blocker settings, using an alternate browser, or using these direct links:
- iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
- iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
The easiest way to organize your iPod is to set up one or more playlists in iTunes that have the content you want on the device, then set the options to sync with selected playlists and sync.
The user tip I've linked to has further links to support articles that should help if, for example, your device doesn't show in iTunes or you encounter errors when upgrading.
