How do I manage my memory in my mac?

I am trying to update to the OS X Yosemite and its telling me I need at least 2gb I need to know how to get to those GB's.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You install more RAM in the computer; buy it from a source such as OWC or Crucial.
