Using old Gateway monitor as second display for Late 2013 MBP?

Hi all,

I'm currently running OSX 10.9.4 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina Display. I recently took an old Gateway LCD monitor (with DVI and HDMI portd) off of someone's hands and was wondering if I'd be able to use it as a second display for my MBP. I have a DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. If this is doable, instructions would be great.

Thank you!

Hi NickDryRock,

Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you want to use an external display with the Mac. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.
