Good troubleshooting so far. Have you tried some of the additional troubleshooting in the first article below? It walks you through starting up in Safe Mode as well as testing to see if it still freezes on you in a different user on your computer. Another question I have is when you removed iTunes, did you remove it and other software as indicated in the second article because that can make the difference on if removing and reinstall will work.
