Shared photos appear on iPad and iPhone but not on Mac

Hi Everyone:

I have several albums I share via iCloud. They appear on both my iPhone and iPad, but do not appear in iPhoto on my Mac. The album titles appear, but the photos do not have. Below are screenshots.

All devices are using the same iCloud account. I have tried turning iCloud Photo Sharing on and off in both System Preferences and iPhoto, but that is not working.

iPad:

iOS 8.1

Mac

  • OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
  • MacBook Pro 13-inch (mid-2012)

I, too, am having this problem but additionally, the number of photos in my shared streams in iPhoto (version 9.6 on Yosemite 10.10.1 - MacBook Pro) are not matching up with the actual number listed on my iPhone 6 and iPad mini 3 - all of the photos are in both my husband's and my shared streams but about 800+ are missing from iPhoto's iCloud stream. Also, streams that I have deleted ages ago are still appearing. I have also turned iCloud Photo Sharing off and back on.

You could also try to remove folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/ to the Desktop.

This folder is the local copy of the photos in the shared Photo Streams on the Mac from the user library.

The user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:

  • Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
  • Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.

In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/.

Remove the folder and restart the Mac. It will take some time, until the folder will populate again. Don't delete the copy you removed, just in case.

i just had a realization - it's not my photos that are missing, it is my husband's or family members.

Can it be, that they already deleted the photos again, that they have shared to the stream?

Then the photos will no longer appear, when you reset the Shared Stream.

But iCloud is terribly slow right after the holiday season, because so many people are setting up new Macs. It can take a very long time for the shared streams to populate again. After I upgraded to Yosemite, I had to wait for two days to see the photos in my Shared streams again.
