How do I connect speakers to my Mac Mini
I am a new Mac user switching from a PC and I am wondering if there is a way to connect my 5.1 surround sound system to the Mac Mini?

Yes. The audio in the HDMI signl suports 5.1

The headphone jack also supports optical out that you can input into a suitable audio device. This is what yo need to connect it to the Mini's hedphone jack
