iOS 5.1.1 is the latest iOS for that device. See this support document to see if any compatible app is available for your device. If not, there is nothing you can so. It is the developers that determine what apps are available. Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

    Chris,

Just copy it or bookmark it, whichever is more convenient. Feel free to make your own modifications. A small and simple credit is appreciated but not necessary. You've helped me an awful lot and were always considerate in doing so. Happy to return the favor. Happy New Year!!!

Kappy your chart suggests that it is possible to update mu iPod touch to iOS6 however when I check for updates it says iOS 5.1.1 is up to date. I am also having trouble connecting to the AP store I just get an error message telling it "cannot connect to iTunes" getting very frustrated.

Connect your iPod to iTunes and wait for the device icon in the corner to pop-up, then click it and update

If your iPod does not have cameras it is a 3G.
