Q: Line spacing/missing text issues on browser and apps

Hi,

I would like to ask why is my line spacing/webpages on my imac look like this (please see screenshot below)

Screen Shot 2014-12-30 at 12.02.53 PM.png

It doesn't only happen on an outlook web based email via browser, I noticed it on other websites as well specially with forms etc... This one is also appearing on apps like my notepad if you noticed it on my screenshot.

I tried troubleshooting it by myself by:

Using Chrome, Firefox browsers but no luck

Installed Adobe flash guessing it might work but still the same

Checked the enable javascript tab in Safari but same result

I'm totally hopeless and posting here is my last resort. I'm guessing it has something to do with updating some scripts or plugins on my Imac or changing something in the settings but I'm totally clueless on which one.

Hoping for a response regarding this issue

Thanks in advance

Give us your iMac model details & OS X version, Safari and other browser versions

Did this misbehavior start suddenly? What event may have preceded it?

you said " Yes this just happened all of a sudden I have no idea if there any updates that occured or other apps installed "

this is kinda important. the sudden onset is a dead giveaway of some kind of update/install as the culprit.

Actually a change to the exchange web interface is just as likely. Based on the screen shot, it could be that a CSS or other support file isn't loading or is improperly linked.

If similar issues are occurring with other apps that rely on internet content, changes to the firewall or system security could be the issue.

    Hi James,

Yes I was thinking about CSS and stylesheets on browser as well but when I opened Notes it has the same issue so I assume its more of the Mac settings issue.

    Thanks,

Indeed... since we are still in the Discovery Phase I suppose we may yet discover  what the true culprit is eventually.

    Hi ChitlinsCC,

Yes I tried removing all he plugins and add-ons in firefox and safari browser thinking it's causing the issue but still the same.

Let me know if you need more info, sorry I couldn't provide precedent issues before this happened, but I'm guessing non so far since i couldn't remember anything new installed.

    Thanks

I may be naive, but I can't envision how a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet & stylesheet are synonymous) could affect ALL browsers AND a non-browser app - but James may. I would take his advice and look into what suggestions he has - something to do with firewall or security that CAN affect ALL internet Apps.

As I cannot begin to replicate your issue, nor can I test with Mavericks, I cannot advise much further but to listen to others who may follow.

I think we have discovered what it is NOT, only.

    best luck

    Hi James,

I checked my firewall settings and it's turned off

    Hi Chitlins,

I hope you wont give up on this issue

not giving up, just at the limit of my capabilities. = can't replicate & no Mavs

I will follow with interest and chime in if I feel I can contribute.

I won't profess to know how the Notes app handles its content, but it is not at all out of the question that it uses XML or a similar mark up type language - and could very well rely on CSS or at the very least a data or mark up definition file. I would think that it would be built in and not linked, however.

My guess at this point would be toward some missing or corrupt components in OS X, but not clear on what the best course of action would be to fix it. Maybe that an Etracheck scan would help pinpoint something. Not sure. A re-install of OS X might be in order.
